“I am a contemporary artist that paints mostly with a palette knife. Expressive strokes, thick paint, and texture are an important part of my paintings.” Gabriela Horikawa is a contemporary painter. Having initially pursued studies in interior design, it was during a year living abroad in Italy that she encountered the works of Nicolas de Stael and fell in love with impasto, thick paint, and palette knives. Now her work is focused on exploring her personal experiences, memories, family and friends, within these techniques, she composes striking works that encourage contemplation and individual interpretation, particularly heightened by the fact that each of Horikawa's pieces are untitled.
